Details about the SICP Modules:

Module 1: International Introduction to Securities and Investment (Kenya)

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to the financial services industry with a key focus on investments from a global perspective but with Kenyan context. It is the first step in the CISI’s qualification pathway, and it is taken by many practitioners as it is the foundation exam for higher level CISI qualifications. The qualification covers key financial principles and products including assets and markets, equities, bonds, derivatives, investment funds, retirement planning, loans, mortgages, life assurance and protection insurance. It explores the broader economic environment in which the financial services industry operates and looks at how economic activity is determined and managed in different economic and political systems.

Module 2: Regulations and Market Practice (Kenya)

CMA Deadline for Module 2 is 21 August 2017.

The syllabus will comprise of:

  1. Legal and Regulatory Framework.
  2. Licensing of Capital Market Intermediaries.
  3. Governance and Market Intermediaries
  4. Conduct of Business.
  5. Markets and Trading Rules.
  6. Investment Funds.

The training structure will be 4 weeks with a block session similar to Module 1 outlined above.

James Omweno

James is the general manager at Africa Risk Institute.  He is an experienced trainer with a keen interest in financial risk management. With a master’s degree in financial engineering and a background in actuarial science, he brings on board technical skills relevant to Africa risk institute’s core business. He has worked in the financial services industry in Kenya for three years. He is passionate about credit risk modelling and data science. Currently he is researching on the use of data science in the creation of data driven risk models. James is also pursuing the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification.
